Thomas’s Choral Society was founded in 1999 and since then has grown into an independent amateur choir of 50 active members who come together each week to rehearse under the expert direction of Justin Luke. Under Justin’s guidance we aim to achieve a high standard of performance whilst retaining great enthusiasm and a sense of fun and friendship. With this in mind we welcome new members at any time and do not audition. We put on two concerts each year choosing a variety of choral works including the well known masterpieces like Handel’s “Messiah” and Haydn’s “Creation” as well as less well known works like Widor’s “Messe pour deux choeurs” and the premier of Mark Travers’ “Gloria”. We are extremely fortunate to be supported by top professional soloists, whose talents have become a regular feature of our concerts. As well as our regular concerts, we have performed to raise money for charity, hosted evenings of musical bedlam, held “Come and Sing” workshops and performances, gone carol singing round the streets of three London boroughs and even, in a fit of inexplicable lunacy, held a 24-hour Singathon, raising over £2000. We meet every Tuesday during term time at 7.30pm at Thomas’s School in Battersea, SW11. |
